Hot & Honey Buffalo Cauliflower “Wings”

Buffalo Cauliflower Recipe with Hot & Honey Sauce:

This Buffalo Cauliflower infuses honey into the hot sauce to provide some sweet with your heat.

Now, I’m not going to pretend that just because this dish is made with cauliflower that it’s healthy.  I wouldn’t call this dish unhealthy either.  So let’s go with “almost healthy.”

First things first, I am by no means trying to replace the ever so popular chicken wing.  Nope, no way!  I love a good chicken wing (or 20), but I also love cauliflower, so coming up with a recipe to combine the two was imperative.  After testing various Cauliflower “Wing” recipes, and numerous rounds of tweaking, this is what I’ve come up with.

Buffalo Cauliflower Wings Recipe

Buffalo Cauliflower “Wings” with a Hot & Sweet Sauce, lightly battered & twice baked.  A recipe I’ve been perfecting for a while.  The goal is to get a crispy outside and tender inside.  If you love the taste of cauliflower and want to combine it with a simple but tasty hot sauce, then this is for you.

Nope, they don’t taste like chicken, but they do taste like yummy cauliflower!

Here’s how they’re made:

Ingredients

For the Buffalo Cauliflower Sauce:

  • 1/2 Cup Unsalted Butter
  • 1/2 Cup Frank's Hot Sauce
  • 1/4 Cup Honey set aside
  • 1/2 tsp Celery Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp White Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Lemon Juice

For the Buffalo Cauliflower Wings:

  • 1 Medium or Large Head of Cauliflower
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 1/2 Cup Milk
  • 1 Cup Flour or flour substitute
  • 1/4 Cup Panko Breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp Salt & White Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • 1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 Cup Thinly Sliced Green Onions

Instructions

For the Hot & Sweet Buffalo Sauce:

  • In a sauce pan over med-low heat, melt the butter and then combine all other Buffalo Sauce ingredients EXCEPT for the honey. Whisk until silky smooth and coats the back of a spoon.

For the Buffalo Cauliflower "Wings":

  • Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Set your oven rack in the middle. Break down your head of cauliflower into chunky pieces. You want the florets to have some substance to them so don't make them too small.
  • Whisk the water, milk, flour, panko, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder in a large bowl or large glass measuring cup. Dredge your florets in the mixture so they are evenly coated. Shake off any excess batter and lay the cauliflower onto a baking sheet with a cooling rack inserted. (This should be a very thin coating and not heavy at all. Most of your coating should remain in the bowl.)
  • Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes. Remove cauliflower from the oven. Gently place the cauliflower into a large bowl and drizzle about 2/3's of the buffalo sauce over top of them. Toss gently to completely coat the cauliflower. Place back on baking sheet and cook for another 15-20 minutes.
  • Finish with a 1-2 minute broil to brown the edges. Watch this step closely so you don't burn the "wings". Add the honey to the remaining buffalo sauce, whisk, then drizzle over the finished "wings." Garnish with scallions then serve with blue cheese dip and celery sticks.
  • Serve & Enjoy!

Nice recipe, I made something similar a while ago but didn’t coat them in sauce and re-bake them, I really like that idea for these though!

This is brilliant idea!! We love cauliflower in this house and buffalo wings as well, especially my husband. Maybe I can make it one day and trick him. I also like that you have added celery salt here. I have one at home but never know what do to with it, so this is very useful.
